| Brief History of LANC
It all started at a family gathering in 1994 in Union City. Ilumeda "Lumeng"
Lorico Bautista who is Fred Villatuya's mother-in-law, met her
cousin, Pacing Fernandez. In their conversation they discovered
the many "relatives" and "kababayan" residing
in Northern California. They thought of organizing a Luisiana
association and suggested it to Maynard Estrellado who was also
at the gathering.
Maynard volunteered to write the by-laws of a town association
and requested the others to invite fellow Luisianians to participate.
Luming started calling all her relatives and fellow kababayan
about the formation of a Luisiana Association of Northern California
(LANC). Thru her persistence, LANC was organized.
The first set of officers were: Maynard Estrellado as President,
Freddie Vergara as Vice-President, Carmen Rillera as Secretary,
Levy Reodica Vito as Asst. Secretary, Evelyn Bautista Villatuya
as Treasurer, Edwina Subijano as Asst. Treasurer, Jose Lorico
as Auditor, Jerry Subijano as Pro and Tomas Subijano as Protocol
Officer. These officers were inducted during the association's
First Induction Ball Dinner and Dance, which was held on October
29, 1994 in Berkeley Marina Marriott in California.
Through the last decade, LANC has had four presidents: Maynard
Estrellado, Rose Subijano Salgado, Helen Catubig and Jess Estrellado,
Jr. They have nurtured the organization and provided the stepping-stones
for the success in the ensuing years. They have initiated the
following activities which have become regular features on an
annual basis; fiesta celebration, holding of picnics, paskuhan
and other family activities.
In 1996, on the club's 3rd year, President Maynard Subijano
Estrellado was re-elected by popular demand to serve for another
term. A scholarship program was initiated for deserving underprivileged
High School students in Luisiana. Under Maynard's presidency,
the club held it's second semi-formal dinner dance.
In 1998, Rose Subijano Salgado succeeded Maynard as president.
LANC organized the third formal dinner dance with a successful
fund raising activity. Proceeds of this fund raising were used
on the scholarship program and other civic activities. LANC
adopted a set of guidelines in the screening of scholars during
Rosemary’s tenure as president.
Helen Catubig who was affiliated with various organizations
was elected president in 2000. Helen's network of friends and
organizations benefited LANC. The club held it's fourth semi-formal
dinner dance and continued to support the Scholarship program.
Jesus Subijano Estrellado, Jr. was elected president in 2002
to 2004. The scholarship program remains the center piece of
the association’s community service project. LANC supported
the Luisiana Pandan Festival during the Grand Reunion 2003 held
in Luisiana, Laguna. Two successful fund raising activities
were held: one on March 22, 2003 reminiscing the Retro years
with a “Disco Flashback”, and the other was held
on Dec. 13, 2003, celebrating Christmas through the "Holiday
Glitters". The project in the drawing board is the restoration
of one fountain in our town plaza. This will be done in collaboration
with Class 67' Foundation.
In 2004, President Jess S. Estrellado, Jr. was re-elected to
serve for another term. Jess remained focus on the scholarship
program. The newly elected officers were inducted during the
celebration of fiesta at Arroyo Community Center in South San
Francisco on October 30, 2004 with a Disco Inferno-Halloween
Party.
LANC is alive and kicking! It looks forward to a bright future
with more challenging community service projects !
